Herman's Trip- Jen Brereton (AndersonB1)

Herman Visits Chevron Drill Ship

Herman visited the Discoverer Deep Seas Drillship working for Chevron in the Gulf of Mexico. It is located about 100 miles offshore Louisiana. He had to fly a helicopter out to the drill ship. The one picture of the drill ship taken from the helicopter does not have Herman in it because he had to be sitting with his seat belt and life jacket on like all the other men that were flying out that day.

Herman Visits Roswell, New Mexico

Herman visted Roswell, New Mexico. As you can see from the sign entering the city, they would like to be remembered as the "Dairy Capital of the Southwest" but that is not what Roswell is remembered for. In 1946 a flying saucer (UFO) was supposed to have crashed near by. The military said it was a weather balloon, but people think that they are keeping it to themselves. So Roswell is really remembered for UFO's and Aliens!! Herman had a great time and kept getting his picture taken with all the aliens in town.

Herman Visits Navajo Nations and Colorado

Herman traveled through southwest Colorado and passed through the Navajo Indian Reservation near Shiprock, New Mexico. The Navajo Indian Reservation is located in 4 different states, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. The Navajo culture is very strong. Tribal members live according to a deeply rooted belief that they "must respect all living things, watch over one another and keep in harmony."
The Navajo Reservation land is very stark. There are not many plants that grow because rain is very scarce. Two of the landmarks in the area are Monument Valley and the famous Shiprock mountain which is the neck of an ancient volcano. One of Hernan's pictures has Shiprock in the distance. It was named Shiprock because it looked like an ancient sailing ship with its tall sails.
